Parkway leads new safety system

4/7/2023 -- Highcroft Ridge Elementary is the pilot school for a new color-coded safety marking system to help first responders navigate schools across St. Louis County. Watch the KMOV news story for details here.

“It’s a color-coding system,” said Paul Tandy, the Parkway School District’s chief communications and emergency management officer. “It’s simple. Large signage with the same numbering system will be placed on both the inside and outside of classroom doors and on the exterior windows. This will point first responders in the right direction without hesitation.”

The goal is for the color-coded system to be consistent in schools across St. Louis County, making it easier for first responders from any department or jurisdiction to navigate a school quickly without a map. A new fire code ordinance will soon be adopted county-wide for public and private schools. Phase one in Parkway and our 31 schools is underway.
