Jeffrey Chazen, Social Studies teacher and department chair, has been selected as the 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year by his West High colleagues. Mr. Chazen currently teaches AP Government, Government, and History of St. Louis, which he created back in 2001. Mr. Chazen has been at West since 1993 and has also coached numerous sports. Mr, Chazen also serves as a high school representative for the Parkway National Education Association (PNEA). This position allows him to fiercely advocate for teachers at West High and across Parkway. He graduated from the best university of all time, Miami University in Ohio, and holds a Master’s degree from Lindenwood University in Secondary Administration. As a Social Studies teacher, Mr. Chazen strives to make his content accessible to all students and relevant to their lives. In his government courses, he strongly advocates for his students to be educated, informed citizens ready to do their civic duty, be it voting, running for office, or advocating for a particular cause. Debate and discussion are cornerstones of his teaching techniques. With the History of St. Louis course, Mr. Chazen revels in the opportunity to highlight all the wonderful people, places, and events that make St. Louis such a great place to live and explore. The course also allows students to delve into topics that might be less studied in history classes, such as music, food, sports, architecture, and religion. Outside of Parkway West, Mr. Chazen is married to a wonderful wife, Courtney, and has two children, Molly and Brendan. He enjoys photography and cooking and tries to run as often as the weather allows. His dream job (other than teaching) would be to become the P.A. announcer for the St. Louis Cardinals. |
