• Parkway Instructional Technology Commitments

As Parkway strives to support and prepare students for an ever-changing world, it’s imperative that the decisions all staff make with technology and the access that we provide to our students reflect the realities that they encounter in and out of school. This responsibility to students, as learners who live in this digital age, requires us to lay out the commitments and rationales to amplify learning and provide students with the skills to be innovative problem solvers. Parkway recognizes that the digital landscape, community expectations, and students' learning needs will continue to change.

    Commitments

    Rationale

Create a balanced approach to student learning

Devices and digital tools are used extensively in our everyday lives. This means we must be mindful of our technology usage by providing a balance of digital and device-free content and learning opportunities for students.

Enhance students’ educational experiences through the use of technology

The intentional use of digital tools incorporated into authentic learning experiences provides students with opportunities to expand their perspectives and enhance their learning. Digital tools hold the potential to foster collaboration while empowering students as creators for authentic audiences as well as allowing them to engage in critical analysis of diverse perspectives and ideas.

Develop a safe digital environment where students are able to learn from mistakes

Safety is central to living and working in the digital world. Parkway has the responsibility to develop a safe environment for students to learn from their digital mistakes and grow from those experiences. When students have the opportunity to learn from those missteps, they will be able to transfer that understanding to their own lives and avoid potential future consequences.

Support students in their digital wellness

As access to digital tools and devices increases, it’s important for students to develop healthy relationships with technology. We have an obligation to teach students skills and strategies for how to navigate their digital interactions, self-regulate their technology usage, and protect their digital privacy. By focusing on digital citizenship and the rights and responsibilities of living in a digital world, we can provide models and approaches for learning in the digital age.

    Advance digital equity

By providing students with equitable access to devices, digital content, and experiences, they will be better prepared for the realities of the world where technology is integral to their daily lives and work. Consideration must be given to the reliability and accessibility of devices, digital content, and classroom experiences. Students who are given equitable access to devices and experiences provided through instructional technology are prepared to take advantage of future learning and career opportunities.
